Cancer- related treatment can create unique challenges for patients and their families.  Our clinic works closely with patients and their medical team to assist patients in meeting their challenges to improve their independence and quality of life.

Cancer Rehab

Our physical therapists use a variety of treatment methods to restore movement, flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination, balance, and function.  Based on the patient’s cancer treatment and the affected areas, education will be provided concerning prevention of lymphedema, cancer- related fatigue, home safety, incontinence, and the most effective home program to counter cancer treatment side effects.

Lymphedema

For patients who present with lymphedema status post-cancer surgery or treatments, Shands Rehab offers Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT). Services are provided by a team of experienced and specialty trained therapists. CDT is a noninvasive, multi-component treatment for lymphedema that consists of Manual Lymph Drainage, compression therapy, decongestive exercises, and skin care. Education is emphasized for independent management, as well as for lymphedema prevention directly after surgery.

Women and Men’s Pelvic Health

 We offer comprehensive physical therapy services for patients undergoing surgery or radiation to the urogenital system, including prostatectomy surgery.  Our specially trained physical therapists are committed to providing treatment of male and female pelvic issues, including urinary and fecal incontinence and pelvic pain.  We create a safe and comfortable environment that allows both men and women to manage their care independently, improve their quality of life, and return to a functional lifestyle.
