Driving Program

Our Adaptive Driving program helps patients get on the road again. Our licensed therapists can provide a complete assessment of a patient?s ability to drive. Training also is provided for those who need practice or instruction. Therapists inspect automobiles to identify the need for any adjustments or adaptive equipment. The program is designed to evaluate driving in cars only and medical approval from a physician is required before participating in the program. For more information on the Adaptive Driving Program, call 352.265.5487.

Wheelchair Evaluation

Working closely with community providers, Shands Rehab Hospital's Outpatient Department provides wheelchair evaluations. These include seating modification and fitting for patients who have had a status change or are in need of a wheelchair due to a recent illness or injury. Certified therapists conduct the evaluations and provide detailed specifications and recommendations to the physicians and patient.
