Shands AGH is Gainesville’s first established hospital. Shands AGH has 367 beds and is recognized for care in Pediatrics, Women’s Health, Cancer Care, Heart Care, and Emergency Care.

We are also one of the area’s most prominent innovators, being the first hospital in the state to adopt the Planetree model of care in 1998. This care philosophy embraces body, mind and spirit, and puts our nurses in touch with complementary treatments like aromatherapy, meditation, music, pet therapy, and our Arts in Medicine program.

Our campus also houses a chapel, meditation rooms, gardens, libraries and comfortable lounges for patient families, complete with computers and full kitchen. Shands AGH is proud to offer a unique healing environment that cares for the whole person, and this extends to everyone on our staff as well.

We believe in empowerment and the potential of each employee. That’s why Shands AGH rewards nurses based on merit, and promotes leaders from within. In fact, several of our nurse managers and directors started as staff RNs. We also encourage GNs to join us, and provide a 12-week orientation that is tailored to individual needs and goals.
