This innovative two-day preceptorship was created to build awareness of the goals and functions of nursing administration at Shands at the University of Florida. All staff RNs are eligible to participate in a program schedule that will include:

• shadowing the Vice President of Nursing, Director of Nursing or a Nurse Manager
• reading materials provided to at the beginning of practicum experience
• participating in meetings with their assigned preceptor
• completing a small project under the direction of their preceptor, with the goal of benefiting the nursing practice on an individual unit or the nursing division as a whole

By the end of the practicum, it is expected that RNs will have a deeper awareness, understanding and appreciation of the nursing administration function, as well as the qualities that identify a leader within our organization.
