The University of Florida and Shands Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Institute is now home to Florida’s only physical therapy sports residency program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association. Only 15 programs nationwide have this accreditation. The residency program allows UF College of Medicine department of physical therapy students to interact with health professionals and gain first-hand experience in evaluation, diagnosis and prognosis. The APTA is a national professional organization, and its goal is to foster advancements in physical therapy practice, research and education.
